An NRL bet in New Zealand begins with a question about the bookmaker, not the team. This section answers it first, because it has a short answer.

The Racing Industry Act 2020, in section 74AAA, allows TAB NZ and no one else to offer racing and sports betting to people in New Zealand, and has done since 28 June 2025. TAB and Betcha belong to the same operator. Applying for a licence is impossible, and no bookmaker register exists.

It is the operator who faces the law. DIA says an overseas company offering these bets is breaking it, yet no individual may be convicted for betting offshore. Punters must be 18 to bet with TAB NZ.
