Privacy policy – leaguebetsnz
An information site on league and betting in New Zealand has small needs, and leaguebetsnz collects only the personal information those needs call for. The Privacy Act 2020 applies, with the information privacy principles of section 22.
Responsibility
The body operating leaguebetsnz is the agency responsible for the personal information collected through it. Name, address and e-mail are available at leaguebetsnz.com, which is also where questions about personal information are sent.
Information collected
When a page is opened, the server logs the IP address, date and time, the address requested, the data volume, the referring page and the browser type. The logs support security and the detection of abuse, and after 90 days they are removed or trimmed until they no longer identify anyone. People who write to the editors give a name, an e-mail address and a message, and these are used to reply and for nothing more. As the site has no accounts, deposits or bets, no payment details or identity documents are collected.
Purposes and principles
Information is gathered for lawful purposes tied to the site: keeping it running and secure, answering messages and, if the cookie banner choice allows, measuring audience (IPP 1). People are told what is collected and why (IPP 3), and the information is used only for those purposes (IPP 10). Neither automated decision-making nor profiling takes place.
Providers and sending abroad
Information is not sold. Hosting, content delivery and e-mail providers receive some of it, and public authorities may when the law requires. A provider may keep information outside New Zealand; disclosure abroad takes place only where comparable safeguards bind the recipient or the person has been told and agrees, as IPP 12 requires.
Security and retention
Reasonable safeguards protect against loss and misuse (IPP 5). Information stays only as long as its purpose needs (IPP 9): logs up to 90 days, correspondence until the matter is closed and for as long as a possible claim requires. A notifiable privacy breach, meaning one that has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, is reported to the Privacy Commissioner and to those affected.
Access and correction
Any person can request access to information held about them (IPP 6) and ask for it to be corrected (IPP 7). The reply comes as soon as reasonably practicable, and at the latest within 20 working days of receipt (section 40).
Complaints
A person who believes their privacy has been breached may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
